Welcome to the Aleli Photodiary, a daily camera-phone photoblog based in Quezon City, Philippines.

I’m Aleli Gaddi Roselo, and I photoblog with my Filipina university student sentiments, a Motorola V3i camera phone  a Nokia N70 camera phone, and (sometimes) a Canon EOS 400D digital SLR camera.

(Also: The Camera and Hair chronicles, hehe!)

Wait–what “Filipina student sentiments”?

Yeah! ‘Cause my subjectivity is shaped by a lot of things! Mainly they’re:

  • my natural curiosity of someone enjoys getting lost in random buildings, streets, and places
  • my pursuit of an undergraduate degree in Communication Research from the University of the Philippines Diliman
  • my attempt to contribute to my co-Filipino-bloggers’ effort to the show “other faces” of the Philippines to the world, through the Internet

Before the Photodiary, I kept a real diary

I’m an avid “diarist” since elementary–my venture in trying out various forms of recording memories is, in a way, inevitable.

Though in love with “documenting life” through writing, doodling, etc., I easily lose motivation in my little projects. Why? I’m a slow writer/illustrator/collager. “Panis na ung alaala” (the event is “old” already) by the time I finish recording it! Surely there has to be some other way to do this?

Around junior year college and into the boom of digital cameras, I developed an infatuation for recording memories: photography. My dad used to be a big photo-enthusiast in his younger years, so actually all this time I grew up with photography resources at home: we’ve got the books, the albums, the vintage SLR..

Only after years of diary-writing, camwhoring/picture-shooting, internet-browsing/blog-hopping did I realize hey, I’ll do a photo-diary! Not only is it going to be efficient and convenient for recording events, it could also practice my composition skills, my discipline, my writing, etc. It hits another “bird” when I realize it can reach people I can’t normally wouldn’t be able to :P

Come June 2007 and pooled resources from freelance stints, I finally got myself a camera-phone (Motorola V3i) and started the photo diary. And this is what you’re reading now.

(Well, I still keep an “offline” diary which keeps all the personal and angsty stuff I won’t ever post online! Guess never outgrew my love for passionate scratching on lead/inktips on paper :D_

Credits, etc

Most of the photos are hosted in this Multiply account.

I’m not a fan of post-processing in photography, but I do enhance/photoshop pictures, especially when I see their potential for better expressiveness.

Your comments would make wonderful things happen for you and me (really). Please leave comments when you feel like it! :)

Thank you for reading this far! Time to go back and enjoy the photos!
