Philippines–land of shopping malls?
10 June, 2008

The Philippines has too many malls, and not that enough money to really make the businesses there prosper. I realized lately that I’ve been to 4 different malls and one shopping district for the past three days and it’s taking a toll in my materialist’s sanity (it’s all coming back to me)! Suddenly I want to buy things I don’t need! Suddenly my tastes for anything zooms up, becomes expensive, and then I begin to dream of tangible, buyable stuff I believe could make me happy.
Luckily, I have no money in the wallet I was carrying on either days.. so I don’t get to waste money on things! Haha, it feels like self-deprivation, but really, I’m not going to die if I don’t shop.
Besides if I sleep it off and avoid impulse mall trips for the rest of the school year, I’ll be fine again (I think).
However, this one’s going to be difficult–to deprive oneself of mall trips, when there’s always a shopping place one jeep/train/cab ride away literally everywhere we go in Manila…!
I wonder how it is for those who go to malls all the time. What do you do with the things you buy? You’re not going to use them everyday anyway and they just turn to clutter at home.
I see a lot of Filipinos act like “material people”. Things make them happy. Instant gratifications. I’ve gone through that stage where the itch of spending money never goes away. I thought I’ve surpassed that now, but who knows? Everyone can use a cheap thrills from time to time ^_~
